Why, in your opinion, would it be helpful to your students for you to set aside a lesson on the structure of the textbook that you are having them use this year?
Katie if students do not recognize the difference in headers or titles they will have a difficult time organizing ideas. They probably will not see it themselves so it helps that the teacher has given them the information.
In the area of music.......why would it be helpful for the teacher to spend time talking about the way in which a music page is set up?
Julie....... Not only would this help students to read the page a little better but this introduction by the teacher will help students to know what phrasing is....they will then know how the music is supposed to sound. It will help students to better understand what it is they are reading so they can play it more effectively.
It is helpful to at least give an overview of the textbook so that students can (A) know what to expect from the text (B) know where to locate information, or assessment sections, or addendums, vocab sections, etc. (C) understand the structure of lessons and how you will use the textbook in class.
